BIG BEAR LAKE
The Big Bear adventures were with the San Diego WalkAbouts "wilderness" hikers. Most of the group stayed at the Bay Meadows Resort while JJ, Bill, Ken and Lee Ann stayed at our SeeJays cabin. The group did a warm up hike near the resort and then a potluck on Monday, 10 June. There were three hikes on Tuesday and then a dinner at the Nepal/Himalayan Restaurant. We all departed on Wednesday, 12 June.
LAKE POWELL
On Wednesday, 12 June, JJ and I departed Big Bear and drove to St George, Utah for an overnight stay. Then the next day we continued to Page, AZ and hung out at the Carl Hayden Visitor Center and waited for the arrival from Phoenix of Charlie, Pam, Dan and Susan. During our wait we had plenty of time to learn about the incredible history of the Glen Canyon Dam. The dam and bridge construction occurred during the period 1956-1963 and the lake finally filled by 1980.
At 5PM we drove over to the State Line Marina and met the arrivals and took all our stuff out to the houseboat which was waiting at its mooring. The next morning the rest of the Phoenix gang arrived, loaded stuff, launched another ski boat and principal owner, Donnie, drove us up river and to a shore tie up in Padres Bay.
The rest of the days we enjoyed boating, swimming and exploring the Face and West Canyons and a long and fast boating up to Dangling Rope Marina and to Rainbow Bridge National Monument. On 19 June we departed our tie up at Padres Bay and motored back to the mooring at Waweap Marina. Finally, JJ and I decided to do a very long drive and returned to San Diego about midnight.
